TERRA’s Team Members created and implemented the Mid-Atlantic Renewable Energy Education Program for UMES and Wor-Wic Community College, which serves as the precursor to TERRA's Enterprise Development in the Renewable Energies Industry Initiative
Team Members accomplished the following at UMES:
- Developed a Renewable Energy Field Testing and Learning Facility on campus
- Installed a new 100-meter tall, fully instrumented meteorological tower
- Developed an interdisciplinary business and engineering curriculum that raised and sustained interest among students and faculty
- Implemented pilot business courses in:
1) Renewable Energy Business Structure and Project
Planning; and
2) Project Financing
- Collaborated with school staff in the development of relevant course materials and curriculum
- Assisted UMES with the process of accreditation to the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) that was granted resulting in attracting more professors and students
- Collaborated with school in obtaining additional funding for programming
- Provided training on wind energy resource assessment techniques and software tools such as WindPro, one of the leading software packages in the wind energy industry
- Established an Academic-Industry Advisory Board that includes representatives from stakeholder groups that advise on curriculum development, provide mentoring, and leverage the networks, training and jobs needed for future renewable energy businesses
- Enabled student participation at regional and national wind and solar industry conferences
